A Man Strangle Mum To Death During Rough S*x Concealed Half-Naked Body In Bedroom For Weeks

A man murdered a woman he met on a night out before concealing her body in his room for a week, a jury heard.

 Richard Bailey, 41, spoke to Charlotte Teeling inside a shop shortly after she left a nightclub alone at 5am.

The pair caught a taxi back to his home and had sex before the 33-year-old was smothered or throttled. Bailey denies murder saying Charlotte died by accident after she asked him to perform a chokehold on her during “rough sex”.

But prosecutors say he deliberately murdered the mum-of-two. Jonas Hankin QC, prosecuting, said: 

“The prosecution’s case is that while having penetrative sex, consensual or otherwise Charlotte Teeling’s death was caused by strangling or smothering. He intended at the very least to cause her very serious harm.

“He has admitted to causing her death but is denying any actions that were unlawful. It will be argued in his defense that Charlotte’s death was an accident due to a choke hold that she asked him to perform during rough sex which she initiated.”

Charlotte, of Worcester, partied at Missing bar in Birmingham on February 22 this year. She later went on to Priva nightclub by herself with CCTV showing she left shortly after 5am. Charlotte met Bailey at a Select and Save shop around an hour later.

Mr. Hankin added: “Within a couple of minutes they are seen to embrace and they leave the shop.”

A Birmingham Crown Court jury heard how the pair took a taxi to Bailey’s Birmingham home. While there he used Charlotte’s phone to take pictures of her and also searched for pornographic material.

Detectives believe he murdered the mum between 9.30am and 11.30am on February 23 this year. She was reported missing three days later.

Mr. Hankin said: “A police investigation was launched and police officers were led to the address and entered on March 2 when Mr. Bailey was not there.

“They found her face down on the bed, naked apart from a piece of underwear on her midriff.  Pornographic material was strewn across the bedroom floor...

“Death was established as forceful compression on the neck, smothering is an easy a word to understand it.”

Bailey, charged with murder and manslaughter, denies both charges. The trial, which is expected to last three weeks, continues.
