Sometimes in football what makes you a player is not just about scoring goals, but scoring important goals.
I remember a certain season 2017/2018, Barcelona needed to overturn a 4 goal deficit against PSG. It took a certain Neymar Jr for Barcelona to do that. At a point, the game was Barcelona 3:1 PSG in Camp Nou, 3-5 aggregate. Messi was nowhere to be found, hopes where lost, but Neymar Roared the crowd and stirred up his teammate after putting curling free kick at the back of PSG's net.
That day we saw a beast in Neymar as he went on to produce two penalties for Barcelona to ain 2 goals in that match, The third goal came in the 50th minute via a penalty scored by Lionel Messi after Neymar was fouled by Thomas Meunier. Barcelona's hopes were brought down after Edinson Cavani scored Paris Saint-Germain's only goal in the 62nd minute, leaving them requiring three more to win due to the away goals rule now favoring PSG. Neymar scored two goals in the closing stages – a free kick in the 88th minute and a penalty in the 91st – to make it 5–1.
In the final seconds of the match, Neymar appeared once again to deliver a cross into the penalty area, and Sergi Roberto scored their sixth and final goal in the 95th minute, achieving the greatest comeback in the history of the Champions League and the European Cup, with the outcome described as "astonishing", "incredible", and "a miracle" by the media. Many believed after that game, He (Neymar) believed he was better than Messi.
Now fast forward 2017/2018 season, the Same situation arose, Barcelona vs Roma, Barcelona where already at an advantage 4-1 Roma, all Barcelona needed was just a goal, no Neymar so Messi could not score again that all important goal to keep his team in the game, they lost out 3-0
Now back to CR7; why I will forever be pained about how selfish and insincere the world is, in Real Madrid champions league outings, Ronaldo has most times single-handedly helped them win the trophy. Like in 2017/2018 season, Ronaldo was present against Bayern, He was also present against Juventus. People like to say, was he the one giving the passes? No. We all agree a tree can not make a forest, but in doing so, we must also understand that goals don't come in giving passes, you must have a top class finisher to convert 80% of your chances.
Modric, world best player is still in Madrid giving passes, and there is a certain Karen Benzema, Gareth Bale, and others, but Madrid is out of the champions league, beating by an Ajax team, even with a clearer advantage.
Yesterday, minus Christiano Ronaldo, Juventus were done. You may still want to argue it, but I've given you examples above. It's not about crossing the ball like some Barcelona fans are already spotting, it's not about getting a penalty in a highly intense game, it's about converting you chances, stirring the team and roaring the crowd. This was exactly what Ronaldo did when he scored the first goal, he made the team believe they could do it, he gave the crowd believe that there's still hope.
Ronaldo has scored more Important goals than Messi or any player you can ever think of. Yesterday Ronaldo became the first play to score 127 goals in all champions league outing.
You can decide to leave in denial again after Juventus wins this season champions league and tell us that Portugal didn't qualify for Europ competitions or that Cristiano Ronaldo rape a woman 9-years ago, and give the best player award to your bais chosen ones. We do our talking on the pitch.
CR7 #GreatestEver
