Troops of the Operation Whirl-Stroke (OPWS) of the Nigerian Army said its men have killed no fewer than 21 armed Fulani herdsmen insurgents along Benue and Nasarawa State axis along the Gbajimba-Akor axis in Guma local government area of Benue state during the clearing operation.
This came as the Nigerian military has expressed appreciation to Governor Samuel Ortom for timely and consistent support to enhance activities of Operation Whirl Stroke in the state.

The army also confirmed the killing of one soldier along the same axis by armed herdsmen in an exchange of fire during a routine fighting patrol with two others who sustained gunshot wounds currently receiving treatment at the Nigerian Air Force Base Hospital in Makurdi, the state capital.
Force Commander of the OPWS, Major General Adeyemi Yekini disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the milestones recorded in the past six weeks.
“Troops made contact with armed militiamen moving with large herds of cattle at about 0900 hours close to the boundary between Benue and Nasarawa States. Following a firefight, OPWS troops dislodged the armed men from the camp with unspecified on them suspected to have been killed while others escaped into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds”.
Major General Yekini said troops also conducted operation in Katsina-Ala local government area in response to the recent Killings allegedly masterminded by a notorious wanted criminal gang leader, Terwase Akwaza alias ‘Gana’ where his camp was raided and a motorcycle he usually used was damaged during the air strike while many sacks of substance suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
“It was not clear if Gana was killed during the assault but trail of blood seen in the building suspected to be where he slept suggests he might have been hit. A motorcycle usually used by Gana was also badly damaged during the air strike. Many sacks of substance suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered and burnt”.
