Manchester United remain keen to replace Paul Pogba with the transfer of Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in the near future.
The Red Devils were strongly linked with the Serbia international throughout the summer but failed to bring him in before last week’s deadline.
Various reports now link Milinkovic-Savic with the likes of Real Madrid, Juventus, and AC Milan, but it seems United also see him as part of their long-term plans.
With speculation growing over potentially having to sell Pogba to Barcelona imminently, it has been claimed that Jose Mourinho has long been working to offload him and bring in Milinkovic-Savic in his place.
This rumor comes from Goal, who now state that Real Madrid are, perhaps unsurprisingly, in pole position to land the 23-year-old due to United being out of the equation until January.
- Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has long been linked as a top transfer target for Manchester United
- Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s future is still not resolved
- It remains to be seen, however, if they can get things done with not a huge amount of time remaining in their transfer window, while the report states that any deal also hinges on Luka Modric leaving the Bernabeu for Inter Milan.
- United will hope this means they can still replace Pogba with Milinkovic-Savic in the middle of the season, all going to plan.
